It's a great feeling when you get news, and it's positive, and then you're like… "wouldn't it be great if this other thing happens?" and then you get news that the other thing is happening. And you're all… this is great. Such is the case with the news that GameTap is going to start offering Sega Saturn games. Two of the higher-quality releases the Saturn enjoyed were Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon Zwei, and we get the following good news from Gamasutra:
Alongside the official launch of platform game Bug! today,
the 'Coming Soon' page within the GameTap PC client now lists the
Saturn versions of both the classic Team Andromeda-developed on-rails
shooters. No specific arrival date has yet been given for the titles.
If you were lucky enough to play a copy of the Xbox sequel Panzer Dragoon Orta you've gotten a taste of how good these on-rails shooters were. This is a good chance to play the originals without having to buy a crusty Saturn from eBay.
Things like the Virtual Console are great, but it only became exciting to me when Nintendo started offering TurboGrafx 16 games. Being able to download and play NES and SNES games through a component connection is cool, but you can find most of these titles at any yard sale or even many game stores. TurboGrafx 16 games are much more obscure, and now they're available for wide consumption. I feel the same way about GameTap's inclusion of these Panzer Dragoon titles. It's not hard to find Dreamcast games, but Saturn games and systems? This is worth celebrating.
I'm doing good with hoping for things, so is there any chance we could get Panzer Dragoon Saga? That would really drive the eBay collectors crazy.
